CULTURAL CONTINGENT VISITS THE MIGHTY HURRICANE

On Tuesday September 18th 43 years of Calypso Supremacy came face to face as the 2011 Calypso Monarch Pamela Courtney met, for the first time, the 1968 Calypso Monarch, the Mighty Hurricane.

The occasion was a visit to the Village of Clozier, by a group of cultural enthusiasts that included local media and Men from the Mainland.

The Mighty Hurricane gave a 35-minute presentation on his experiences as a Calypsonian, winning the title in 1968 and his views on the present state of the art-form. His presentation was followed by a question and answer session that included a request for the performance of a calypso from his era.

Pamela also performed one of her 2011 winning selections and presented Hurricane with a present as a sign of her appreciation and respect for his contribution to and accomplishments in calypso.

The entire event was recorded on video and archived for local airplay.

A special thanks to the Clozier Development Committee for hosting the event, RealFM for providing live coverage throughout the evening and the family of Hurricane for their support of the event and hospitality.
