The Supper

When she’s six months pregnant with me, Irene’s family invites her to a fete at Mamma’s house in Mt. Rose. 
They are celebrating the purchase of land on Pointzfield Estate. 
The land, like most of the estates on the island, is owned by Mamma’s white family, the DeGales. 
After her father died, the property went to her brothers and sisters.  He’d removed her from his will when she married a black man.
