Who rang the Bell?

 By Lamoure

The City sleeps in darkness.
Mothers hold their babies to their breasts
Fathers are restless, sleepless
What will tomorrow bring?

No ligarou out tonight
Zombie hiding behind silkcotton tree
Seamoon crab dive deep in their hole
Concord Monkey climb the highest tree staring at a starless sky
Mother hen cuddles her chicks under her warm wings shaking with fear
And daddy cock ‘fraid to crow.

Not a dog bark
Brea manicou hide in water grass down in ah cocoa field
But the Mongoose, his rabid venom frothing from his pungent mouth is at play

Then at midnight, somebody rang the bell.

Happy Independence Grenada.
